What a difference one month makes! With spring bringing its gifts of brighter evenings and warmer temperatures, we are once again enjoying the wonderful part of the world we have been living in lately. Meanwhile, in the center, spring has an equally big impact. Read on to find out what we’ve been up to over the past month at Atlantis.

Center Life – “Go Green and Keep the Water Clean”

Due to the rising cost of utilities, we continue to explore green energy solutions available to Atlantis.

Atlantis has always been an early adopter of energy efficiency innovations, with variants of biomass and air power plants having been installed at the center for several years now.

The challenge for Atlantis is to ensure that our plant and equipment keep pace with continuous industry developments and improvements.

One of the ways we are tackling this issue this month is by performing a thorough assessment of our building and existing equipment. We will keep you informed of the results and the ideas that arise.
Elsewhere in the building, we are starting the major work on our swimming pool factory that we were talking about last time. These are works on our swimming pool dosing and filtration equipment. Maintaining a high quality filtration and dosing kit is essential to ensure our pool water remains at a safe level and quality.

Meanwhile, we are also following the demand in the gymnasium. Following the upgrade of our range of Technogym equipment and listening to community needs regarding what our gym users want from our equipment, we are upping the ante and increasing the capacity of certain elements of our kit.

This month, the Dual Pulley will get a 25% weight increase, which will help our strength and conditioning customers tailor their workouts to their needs.

This month, Barry Harper was in the Climb Cube to complete the scheduled reset.
Barry has defined a range of new routes suitable for both beginners and advanced climbers.
We anticipate Barry resets to be more frequent but smaller, so our climbers get more variation between major resets.

Atlantis in the Community – “Making a Difference Beyond the Core”

Back in January, we told you about some of the Atlantis team members who were taking a leadership training course with the Social Enterprise Academy.
This month saw the completion of the programme, with representatives from Atlantis joining others from Oban Phoenix Cinema, Hope to Oban, Healthy Options and Mallaig Pool and Leisure Center in their final group session.
The Social Enterprise Academy has been a longtime supporter of Atlantis – it’s great to find more opportunities to work together and learn from their wisdom and expertise.

Staff news – ‘the team behind the action’

We continue our commitment to maintaining and advancing staff training wherever possible.
This month, that means six more members of the staff team passed their pool lifeguard qualification. Congratulations also to Erin who earned her Level 2 Gymnastics Instructor qualification this month.

Honoring our training commitment to all staff members is an important way for us to serve the community. In particular, it provides a means for young school leavers who may not wish to continue their education to continue to find training opportunities close to home.

Following a successful recruitment last month, we are delighted to welcome two new Service Managers to the team. Both Eddy Edwards and Scott Anstruther bring a wealth of experience and skills to the staff of Atlantis – it’s great to have them with us!

We received the wonderful news that a baby boy was safely delivered to Kevin and Claire Keen earlier this month – congratulations to the new baby family!
