Luxury camping has arrived at Atlantis Paradise Island, the top-rated resort in the Bahamas. The all-new Marine Life Camping experience includes a behind-the-scenes tour of Dolphin Cay, snorkeling in the ruins at night, kayaking with dolphins, and camping in a luxury tent. It’s a whole new way to experience the #1 family resort in the Bahamas. Here’s what you need to know, from how to book to what family type.

The writer was hosted.

When we booked our Atlantis Paradise Island vacation, we knew we were in for the ultimate vacation with our family. The Aquaventure resort and water park is packed with fun.

But I was completely blown away on my first visit to Atlantis. I quickly realized that it would be hard to top this holiday!

Then I learned there was a way to make this great vacation even better: upgrades!

There are several ways to upgrade an Atlantis Bahamas vacation; the full list of experiments is here.

However, there is a NEW experience at Atlantis Bahamas that allowed my family and I to enjoy multiple activities and experience luxury camping under the stars!

What is included in the Marine Life camping experience?

Does your family love adventure? Do you like behind-the-scenes VIP tours? Does snorkeling and kayaking excite your family? Do you like nature and the possibility of sleeping under the stars?

These are just some of the fun adventures you will have when you book this new experience.

Kayaking with dolphins

It was easily my favorite part of the whole night. I have loved dolphins since I was a child and being able to kayak with them was an experience I will never forget.

My three daughters spent the whole time laughing and watching the dolphins swim around them. My husband and I were each in a double kayak with our youngest daughters while my 13 year old daughter had a kayak all to herself.

We all came away from this experience with the best memories.

Behind-the-scenes tour of the Sea Keeper

Get ready to learn a lot about the Royal Towers Fish Hospital, Rehabilitation Center and Fish Kitchen! You may also encounter a pod of rescued dolphins, a family of sea lions, baby sea turtles, and a variety of other sea animals.

We came away from this part of the program with a whole new appreciation for all that Atlantis does to help save and rehabilitate marine animals.

Dolphin Cay is one of the largest and most sophisticated marine mammal habitats in the world. Getting a VIP tour was educational and very special for us.

Twilight Snorkel in the Lagoon of Ruins

This is the part of the night that my 13 and 11 year olds enjoyed the most. Atlantis provides the snorkel gear, then takes you on a guided snorkeling tour of the ruins.

We snorkeled among stingrays, fish, sharks and more. My 9 year old daughter did less snorkeling and more swimming with her head above water because she was a little scared of all the sea life around her. You’ll want to make sure everyone is on board ahead of time.

Snorkeling the ruins at night is special. We felt like explorers looking for treasure in the ruins of Atlantis. I would say it was a 10/10 part of the night!

Lawn Movies and Campfire S’mores

We ended the night around the campfire, enjoying s’mores and watching movies outdoors. We even enjoyed a little karaoke with another family which was great fun. My eldest daughter, who has never sung in public, jumped on the microphone and sang at the top of her voice.

These are the moments and memories that characterize family vacations.

Morning wake up with the dolphins

I woke up very early, made a cup of coffee in my tent and went out onto the beach to listen and watch the dolphins as they played just outside our tents.

Everyone packed their bags and headed out to get in the water to learn more about the dolphins currently at Dolphin Cay.

It is truly a once in a lifetime experience that was the icing on the cake of our night of marine life camping.

Camping under the stars in luxury tents

Yes, you’ll be tent camping, but don’t worry, you won’t have to sacrifice your cute resort bed for a sleeping bag on the ground. You will stay in a luxury tent for 4 or 6 people with air conditioning and set up on a raised terrace. Inside we found padded beds with comfortable bedding.

Our whole family slept very well, we found the beds comfortable and easy to sleep on.

These tents will ruin all our future camping experiences. They are furnished with everything you need to make your stay comfortable including a coffee maker, kettle, mini fridge (stocked with water) and the best snacks and treats which our kids loved. Bathrooms and showers are only a few steps from the tents.

Is it worth splurging?

Our family was completely satisfied with the entire Atlantis Marine Life camping experience. In fact, it exceeded our expectations and our best memories of our Atlantis vacation came from this fun program.

It should be mentioned that I have a super adventurous family. We love the outdoors and camping, which I think played a big part in our appreciation of this upgrade.

Is this experience suitable for all families? I would answer no, only because many activities are more adventurous and require a willing family to take on.

It’s also an expensive upgrade, so be prepared for that. You must have a reservation at the resort for the night to book this experience, so technically you will be paying for two different accommodations on the same night.

Booking The Marine Life Camping Experience

There are a few things you need to know about booking this experience:

  • You are not required to book this program at the time you make your reservations at Atlantis Bahamas. However, booking early helps ensure you can experience it during your stay. Reservations for the Marine Life Camping Experience require at least 24 hours notice prior to the desired night of camping adventure.
  • An Atlantis Room Reservation is required to book, so technically you’re paying for two rooms – one in an Atlantis hotel and one in a glamping tent – on the same night.
  • This is a 13 hour dusk to dawn experience, starting at 7:00 PM one night and ending at 8:00 AM the next morning. Plan your day accordingly.
  • Children must be at least 6 years old to participate and they must know how to swim.
  • Bring a swimsuit, pajamas and a change of clothes for the next day, as well as toiletries such as toothbrushes and medicine. There are showers at the campsite which are stocked with towels, shampoos and bath soaps.
