Big win for Atlantis Charter Soccer

Fall sports season is underway in the Fall River area.

Men’s Soccer: Atlantis Charter vs. Avon

SCORE: Atlantis Charter 15, Avon 0

STRONG POINTS: The Tritons boys football team started strong, scoring 15 unanswered goals in their win over Avon in the season opener. “We had many players who had the opportunity to score and they all capitalized when it was time to execute,” said Nathan Melo of Atlantis Charter. “Coach Madeira and I are proud of how our boys have performed. We look forward to a fun and exciting season.” The Tritons travel to Cape Cod Tech on Monday.

Men’s soccer: Bishop Connolly at Southeastern

SCORE: Bishop Connolly 3, Southeast 2

LOCATION: South East

STRONG POINTS: Dimitiros Tztelekos, Chris Guzman and Avery Dinham each scored in Connolly’s road win over Southeastern. Ethan Silva also contributed with an assist in the win. Brandon DeFaria had seven saves in net. The Cougars travel to Bristol-Plymouth on Monday.

Boys football: Somerset Berkley at Apponequet

SCORE: Somerset Berkeley 7, Apponequet 0

STRONG POINTS: Cam Freitas scored three goals and had two assists; Davi Lima scored a goal and got an assist; Seth Lee scored two goals and provided an assist; Zachary Deneault scored a goal; and Nicolas Scanlon had two assists. Evan Furtado made four saves for Somerset Berkley and Brian Emerson made 9 saves for Apponequet. Coach David Gleason says Somerset Berkley will face Fairhaven on Wednesday.

Women’s Soccer: Atlantis Charter at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School

LOCATION: Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School, Franklin

STRONG POINTS: The Tritons opened their 2022 season on the road against Tri-County in Franklin. Isabella St. Pierre kept a clean sheet in goal for her half of the game, as did the main line of defense of Bella Dos Reis, Jayda Braga, Jasmin Almeida and Gabriela Avians Almeida. Forwards Julia Ribon and Destiny Rodney created scoring chances and made sure the Tri-County keeper didn’t have it easy. “As the team matures, the results will come. But it was a perfect development game and all the players exceeded expectations,” coach Joe Keizer said. Atlantis Charter will play their home opener against Bristol County Agricultural High School on September 15.

REGISTRATION: 1-1 (Case); 0-1 (Westport)

STRONG POINTS: For Case, freshman forward Julia Lopes scored all three goals and freshman goaltender Emma Aguiar made eight saves to earn the clean sheet. Rookie Gianna Botleho assisted on the first goal of the game and junior Maddie McMahon provided an excellent pass to set up the third goal. Katelyn Bettencourt put in an incredible performance in defence. For Westport, manager Gary Muello said: “We are young but keen to learn and compete. We will continue to improve as a team. There are no quitting in this group.” Westport will host Diman on September 12.

STRONG POINTS: It was Diman’s season opener. Coach Floriano Lima said Friday’s top performers included: first-year goaltender Skyla Carvahlo, who made 12 saves. Rookie Natalie Raposa played well on defense, as did Lilah Krausyk and Dakota Garcia.

Field Hockey: Somerset Berkley vs. Dighton-Rehoboth

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 1, Dighton-Rehoboth 0

LOCATION: Somerset-Berkeley

STRONG POINTS: Rookie Ella Vaught scored the game-winning goal in the third quarter, which coach Jen Crook said was set up perfectly by junior Karissa Albin. Somerset Berkley drew Dighton-Rrehoboth 19-1. SB’s Jordan Theriault was in net. They will play at Bishop Stang on September 12.

Field Hockey: Joseph Case vs. Seekonk

REGISTRATION: 2-0-0 (SCC: 2-0-0)

STRONG POINTS: Case’s goals were scored by Lexi Yost, Brooke Orton, Megan Smith (2), Maeve Richardson, Emma Bouchard, Shelby Hajder, Jenna Benfeito and Brooke Perron. Assists were from Smith, Hajder, Yost (2), Orton and Perron. Coach Kacie Martel called it a “solid team defense.” Goaltender Anna Michaud made two saves. Case will next play Apponequet on September 16.

Women’s volleyball: Somerset Berkley at Durfee

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 3, Durfee 1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19)

STRONG POINTS: Abigail Vieira had 13 kills and 8 digs; Annabella Karpicz had 14 service points, including 4 aces, 10 kills and 4 blocks; Captain Kaelyn Rose had 30 assists and 7 digs; and Abigail Davis had 5 aces, 7 kills and 5 digs. Somerset Berkley will host Dighton-Rehoboth on September 12.

STRONG POINTS: Sarah Moniz had 4 aces and 4 kills; Sadie Krauzyk had 3 aces, 3 kills and 6 blocks; Lindsey Moniz had 8 aces; and Hannah Martin had 9 assists, 4 aces. Diman’s coach, Cathie Noversa, said she will next face Cape Cod Tech on Sept. 14.
