Starfield Features Bethesda’s Largest City in New Atlantis

We’ll have to turn on our GPS.

Although we are all still reeling from this great star field revealed during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, details continue to emerge about the game’s cityscapes. Frankly, there’s a lot to take in, which seems to be this game’s overriding theme. Thanks to an interview with IGN, Bethesda Head Honcho and star field Game Director Todd Howard has shared more information about the major cities in the game.

According to Tod, by Starfield The main city will be called New Atlantis and is apparently bigger than any of the cities in Bethesda’s previous games. New Atlantis will serve as the hub for the Constellation faction, the game’s main chain of command, and viewers were treated to another look at the city during the Xbox Games Showcase Extended event earlier today. You can watch the replay of that event below, but the star field the deeper dive takes about 50 minutes.

IGN’s interview with Howard also revealed that the game’s main questline is expected to take between 30-40 hours and will largely take place in the sprawling city of New Atlantis. The game will feature four main cities in total, presumably located on one or two of the more than 1,000 planets that have been revealed to feature in star field during Sunday’s presentation.

Needless to say, the gaming community had a plot thoughts on star field. The vast majority of them are overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic, but some have raised questions about the game’s promised scale and whether the inclusion of a procedurally generated galaxy system will give the game Bethesda the typical handcrafted feel of previous Bethesda games. With that, we’ll just have to wait and see. However, it’s clear that the hype is really kicking off around this game ahead of its scheduled release in 2023.
