UNC Basketball will participate in Battle 4 Atlantis 2023

It’s never too early to start planning…isn’t it?! Reports are surfacing that the UNC basketball program will compete in Battle 4 Atlantis 2023.

Yes, we know that the UNC basketball program hasn’t even started its 2022-23 season yet.

But hey, it never hurts to anticipate the future programming of the program!

As CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported, the Tar Heels are set to compete in Battle 4 Atlantis 2023, which is held annually in the Bahamas. These games will count toward North Carolina’s 2023-24 non-conference schedule.

Usually held inside the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, this event serves as an early season test for the programs involved. The tournament usually takes place during Thanksgiving week, as programs may see quality non-conference opponents as they look to prepare for their next conference roster.

College programs may rotate through non-conference tournaments every four seasons. For example, the Tar Heels are usually selected for some of these major tournaments, such as the Battle 4 Atlantis as well as the Maui Invitational.

The 2023-2024 season will mark the four-year period for the Tar Heels to re-enter the Battle 4 Atlantis, as they last appeared in the event in November 2019. In this event, the UNC basketball program , led by the likes of Garrison Brooks, Cole Anthony and Armando Bacot, finished third overall after winning two of their three contests.

In this event, the Tar Heels would be joined by Arkansas, Michigan, Memphis, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Stanford and Villanova. More information regarding the tournament will be released closer to the event date.
